Job overview

This role is only open to applicants that currently work within an NHS Trust within the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care System (HIOW ICS).

This varied and proactive administrative role will support the AOS service to deliver best practice clinical care to Oncology patients across HHFT.

The acute oncology service was developed to support patients undergoing cancer treatments and offers 24/7 direct access for patients who may be experiencing side effects of their treatment.

This role will provide administrative and data support to the team to ensure that the clinicians are spending as much time with patients as possible.  This role will be pivotal in developing, managing and maintaining an acute oncology database which will be used to deliver safe and effective acute oncology services.

The day-to-day function of the role will include booking retrospective triage telephone calls onto our patient booking system to ensure accurate recording, booking any face-to-face appointments and subsequent follow up appointments, E-outcoming clinics and any other data entry as and when required.

Main duties of the job

  • To book all appointments including telephone and face to face onto the patient booking system
  • E-outcome all clinics, ensuring any actions are completed and patients discharged appropriately
  • Monitor and provide a list of patients for clinical review, utilising the acute oncology patient tag on EPR
  • To lead on collecting data on admission avoidance, ED avoidance and Length of stay for acute oncology patients
  • Create and manage the acute oncology database
  • To produce monthly performance reports and monitor clinical audits
  • To complete general administrative duties
  • To take and manage incoming e-referrals to the team, ensuring that they are passed to the appropriate clinician within a timely manner
  • To participate in audits as required as part of regional and national agendas, as well as internal project-based audits

Working for our organisation

Our vision is to provide outstanding care for every patient. Patient care is at the heart of what we do at our three sites: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester and Andover War Memorial Hospital. Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides medical and surgical services to a population of approximately 600,000 people across Hampshire and parts of West Berkshire.

Our cultural ambition is to have a culture that places people at the heart of all we do, where we all belong, and where learning, improvement and excellence thrive.

We provide specialist services to people across the UK and internationally. We are one of only two centres in the UK treating pseudomyxoma peritonei (a rare form of abdominal cancer) and we are leaders in the field of tertiary liver cancer and colorectal cancer.

The trust employs more than 9,000 staff and has a turnover of over £500 million a year. As a Foundation Trust, we are directly accountable to our members through the governors. The Council of Governors represent the interests of their constituencies and influence the future plans of the Foundation Trust.
