Band 6 MidwifeAntenatal Clinic and Screening Midwife, Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Location: Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital, Basingstoke

Part Time: 15 hours per week (Thursday and Friday 0800-1600)

  • To support the Antenatal and Newborn screening coordinator in providing high quality uniform antenatal and newborn screening (excluding newborn hearing programmes)
  • The post holder will be responsible in providing evidenced based woman centred midwifery care and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, other agencies and user representatives.

Main duties of the job

What we look for:

  • Experienced midwives to join our enthusiastic, reliable and hardworking team
  • Someone to assist the antenatal screening team in the running of the screening programmes.  This will involve supporting women who have received high chance results, were a fetal anomaly is found or are attending for termination of pregnancy
  • Promote and maintain a culture of woman-centred care within the maternity service
  • Help to foster a holistic multidisciplinary approach to women’s care and communication

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife.
  • Diploma/degree level or equivalent with evidence of further professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Additional training in antenatal and newborn screening

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Able to make appropriate clinical decisions in view of recent research, informed choice and individual circumstances
  • Awareness of professional responsibilities
Desirable criteria
  • Experience within similar role

Skills & Ability

Essential criteria
  • Able to demonstrate the mentoring of students and induction of new staff.
  • Demonstrate competence in: perineal suturing, cannulation, homebirth, epidural top ups, caring for women birthing their babies in water and in the home/birth centre setting.
  • Able to demonstrate team leadership and associate ward management competencies
Desirable criteria
  • Has participated in research and audit.

Other Specific Requirements

Essential criteria
  • Ability to understand and then convey complex information.
  • Demonstrate ability to be IT literate, use of word, excel, powerpoint and NHS IT systems
