The opportunity has arisen to join the Governance team of NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight as the Risk and Governance Officer, providing risk management and corporate governance support to the organisation. 

Main duties of the job

The postholder is responsible for supporting and in some instances, leading on, the implementation of good governance and risk management processes across the organisation. The postholder will be responsible for supporting effective governance and administration of committees and the risk management framework.

 The postholder will support the creation of a culture of best practice for governance and risk management, by implementing the highest standards within the Governance team. This will require the postholder to be proactive in suggesting and designing effective governance and risk management processes and delivering these in a fast-paced and effective manner.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This role is part of a small, fast-paced Governance team, which supports the Board and Executive to ensure the governance and risk management frameworks are operated effectively. The role is based in our offices in Eastleigh, with some remote working possible where this meets business needs. There will be the need to travel to other sites on occasion.

Person specification

Knowledge, Training and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent qualification, and specialist training undertaken in risk management.
  • Proven track record of delivering excellent governance and/or risk management support to a senior management team in a complex organisation and building credible relationships.
  • Able to present information in an accurate and confident manner to the Board of Directors, Executive team and all levels of the organisation.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.
  • Experience/knowledge of risk management.
  • Experience of good quality and timely minute taking and committee management, including annual cycle planning and information flow.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of line management or team leadership.
  • A good understanding of the health and social care environment and the roles and responsibilities within it and the NHS generally.
  • Ability to analyse data.

Communication and Relationship Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to motivate and enthuse others in a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, to produce and present reports including the presentation of data.
  • Ability to inspire confidence of colleagues, particularly senior management.
