Open only to applicants from Hampshire & Isle of Wight NHS system, which is limited to NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight, Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, Isle of Wight NHS Trust, University Hospital Southampton Foundation Trust, South Central Ambulance Service or Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust.
To provide assistance and support to the Management Accountant/Senior Management Accountant – in the provision of finance management support.
Main duties of the job
Financial Management / Budgetary Control
To provide support to the management accountants and senior management accountants within the place team in providing comprehensive management accounting services.
Responsible for month end actions/adjustments to meet month end reporting timetable.
Support the production of financial statements for month end reporting for areas of responsibility
Support production of financial information and analysis as necessary
Where necessary maintain patient level data base for all continuing care, special placements patients and ECR’s ensuring it reconciles with general ledger on a monthly basis
Meet and support budget holders to meet their financial targets
Update budgets to reflect inflation, virements and developments.
Calculate and input accruals and prepayments to ensure the financial position reported is true and fair.
Ad hoc project work including support into business cases as required.
Discuss and resolve financial queries with staff and suppliers.
Monitor, validate, challenge and process invoices and claims for payment ensuring appropriate Senior Commissioning Manager sign-off.
Monitor and prepare monthly financial statements for internal reporting.
Raise periodic invoices as required.
Control systems and Statutory Functions
Support year end accounts process, journal input, accruals and budgets.
Ensure financial procedures are adequately documented and maintained.
Provide appropriate training to new recruits in finance.

Knowledge, Training and Experience
Essential criteria
- AAT part qualified/studying towards an accounting qualification or qualified by experience.
- Previous knowledge of financial and accounting procedures
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of financial aspects of NHS legislation and NHS finance policies including commissioning
- Knowledge of the ICB reporting cycle

- Good communication skills Both oral and written and good interpersonal skills
- Able to work effectively as part of a team as well as working on own initiative
