Main duties of the job

UHS Estates Limited are looking to recruit a Equipment & Instrumentation Controller to join our growing
service. 

The Equipment & Controller team consists of 5 staff members plus a Supervisor. This team picks & checks the sterile sets for the procedures in the coming days, using the available systems to support this activity. Alongside this they proactively manage routine maintenance and servicing of theatre equipment, machinery etc, to ensure that downtime is minimised, to support the highest levels of clinical activity.

As part of a small team, this postholder will work collaboratively to ensure that the right equipment and instrumentation is in the right place, at the right time, thus contributing to theatre efficiency.  

This team provide a service between 07:30-21:30. Rostered on different shifts to share these duties. 

The service supports the operating theatres, operating labs and a number of other areas of a
24/7 acute teaching Hospital (University Hospital Southampton). Providing major trauma and
countless tertiary services across the South of England. Ensuring that the correct theatre is
available, with the correct equipment, the correct consumables and surgical instrumentation, at
the correct time.

Essential criteria
  • Health and physical abilities sufficient for the post (if necessary with reasonable adjustments with respect to the Equality Act).

Qualifications / training required

Essential criteria
  • Formal training or equivalent experience to diploma level (Level 4).
  • Computer Skills qualification or equivalent relevant experience. Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • IELTS score of 7 or above where English is not the first language

Previous or relevant experience necessary

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of administrative procedures, including Oracle system and how to raise requisitions
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of theatre/medical equipment gained through on the job learning within theatres/relevant clinical area.
  • People Management - the ability to cordinate, influence and lead people who may or may not be direct reports.
  • Time Management - the ability to manage and prioritise project activities and the workload of the UEL Equipment and Instrument Controller team
