Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic, driven new colleague to join our team as a Junior Clinical Fellow with a special interest in on of five subjects (Major Trauma, Education, Medical Leadership, Toxicology and Ultrasound).

This fellowship will split your time 75% clinical (on the junior doctor rota) and 25% allocated to undertake additional training, projects and academic activity in your chosen special interest. This will come with supervision and financial support to achieve additional qualifications (e.g. PGCert).

You will join a very well supported team working primarily in the Adult ED of a leading Major Trauma Centre and be allocated a supervising EM Consultant with relevant interests to support your fellowship from our renowned team. 

There is EM Consultant presence on the shop floor at least 23 hours a day Sunday to Friday and 16 hours per day over the weekend. When a consultant is not present in the department there will typically be two doctors of ST4+ level.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • You will work on the Emergency Department junior doctor rota covering a range of shifts (including night shifts and weekends)
  • During these clinical shifts you will find yourself supported working in areas such as Majors and Resus providing quality Emergency Care.
  • You will undertake additional funded training in your area of special interest with the opportunity to complete modules and courses leading to additional qualifications such as a PGCert.
  • You will have the opportunity to complete projects (QI, Audit, Research) in you chosen special interest, supported by an EM clinical/educational supervisor with an interest in the subject

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed (non-training fellow doctors and dentists).

Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, and there will be a named educational supervisor assigned at the start of the post. The opportunity for Continued Professional Development (CPD) is highly supported and encouraged by the Trust, with options available to take study leave. All licensed doctors must meet the GMC requirements for revalidation and there will be an annual appraisal to support this process.

Grades for Trust appointed (non-training) fellows will be paid a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, at the rate set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular. Basic salary detailed below plus any additional remuneration (as applicable) for hours set out in the doctors work schedule (e.g. additional hours, weekend allowance, and any hours which attract enhanced pay)

Basic Salary -  MT03        £49,909        

Travelling expenses will not be paid for attending interview

Please note that GMC registration (with a licence to practice) and right to work in the UK are essential for this role.  Successful applicants will already have GMC registration or will be able to demonstrate they are eligible.  Applicants requiring Tier 2 sponsorship should ensure they meet the Home Office application criteria prior to submitting an application.

Qualifications and training

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Primary medical qualification recognised by the GMC
  • Full GMC registration
  • 12 months experience working within the NHS
  • Current ALS certificate
Desirable criteria
  • Current ATLS certificate

Previous or relevant experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 1 year’s post registration experience
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence from workplace-based assessments of clinical performance (DOPs, Mini-CEX, CBD, ACAT) and Multi Source Feedback or equivalent
  • Additional experience in acute specialities
  • Evidence of relevant academic and research achievements, e.g., degrees, prizes, awards, distinctions, publications, presentations, other achievements
  • Evidence of involvement in an audit project, a quality improvement project, formal research project or other activity

Aptitudes and skills

  • Demonstrate evidence of being able to prioritise time, manage information effectively and prioritise clinical need
