Main duties of the job

Health Innovation Wessex (HIW) and Central and South Genomic Medicine Service Alliance (C&S GMSA) are looking for a Director of Genomics Innovation to initiate and accelerate genomics innovation projects in an NHS setting, bringing improved patient impacts and NHS value across the Central and South geography.

This post is part of an exciting collaboration between HIW and C&S GMSA. HIW connects the NHS, universities, researchers, innovators and industry to drive innovation into the health service to benefit patients, save the NHS time and money, and help to grow the health sector economy.

As Director of Genomics Innovation, you will have a pivotal role in overseeing and coordinating the delivery of the Genomics Networks of Excellence (GNoE) in the C&S GMSA region.  You will be responsible for representing the GMSA at senior levels on the GNoE, as well as other Research and Innovation activities.

C&S GMSA is one of seven NHS Alliances created by NHS England to embed genomics into routine care across the country, ensuring equity of access and providing faster diagnoses and more effective, personalised treatment for patients.

Together we are looking for an individual to lead genomics projects across the central and south geography.

We are keen to ensure that staff enjoy a successful work/life balance and offer flexible working dependent on the requirements of the role. Health Innovation Wessex endorses personal development and provides training allowances to help you deliver in the role and meet your career goals.
We also have a proactive approach to wellbeing in line with our core values of being Innovative, Inclusive and Collaborative, with staff engagement groups shaping the organisation’s culture and driving initiatives to allow our people to flourish despite times of challenge, change and high demand.

  • Support transformation efforts by ensuring detailed plans are developed and implemented, working with a small team with associated clinical leadership support, system partners and other teams across the Central and South Region.
  • You will have a lead role in the relationship and partnership activities to deliver an agreed delivery plan and will also lead on a number of cross-cutting themes.
  • Generate commercial opportunities for HIW, through identification and delivery of additional, but genomics-related fee-earning projects.
