Job overview

12 MONTH SECONDMENT POST

We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Specialist Biomedical Scientist to work in our friendly, well equipped Cellular Pathology department, which processes approximately 35,000 samples per year, providing essential services to the Trust and the wider health care community.

You will have excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills and your work will ensure that the department continues to deliver a high quality, timely and effective service, where patient experience and safety is central.

Appointment will require the post-holder hold a Specialist Diploma or an equivalent level of post registration experience to demonstrate you are flexible and highly organised, able to align your values with those of the organisation and able to work as part of a team with a ‘can-do’ positive attitude.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in all core aspects of routine Cellular Pathology including microtomy, embedding, special staining techniques, Immunohistochemistry and specimen transfers.  Experience of Quality Management, Health & Safety and Quality Improvement will be advantageous.

Working for our organisation

The Cellular Pathology Department is in an exciting period of service development and has begun implementing a Digital Pathology solution, which the post holders will have the opportunity to be involved with.

The central Histology laboratory service is situated on the Royal Hampshire Hospital site in Winchester with a small satellite team based at the Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital.

The post holders will work routinely as part of the team based at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital with a commitment at the Basingstoke site as part of the BMS rotational team to lead the team and perform frozen section and OSNA techniques, once training where required is in place.

We encourage continuing professional development with further technical and academic based opportunities available to staff.

Hampshire Hospitals Cellular Pathology is accredited by UKAS to ISO15189:2012 and complies with HTA standards.
