Job overview

The Ear Nose and Throat Clinic located in the Outpatient Department at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester is a diverse, multidisciplinary environment which requires flexible and adaptable skills, an aptitude to learn and a motivation to develop your own skills.

In the ENT Clinic you will be able to learn all about ENT and treatment. You will be assisting our ENT doctors in their outpatient clinics, but also support our Emergency Clinic, Triage calls, run Nurse Led Clinic and help support and manage our delicate ENT equipment with the support of your direct line manager.

Previous outpatient experience is desirable but not essential as training will be given.  Professional development is high on our priorities and regular CPD is encouraged and essential.  The department offers a supportive and learning environment which endeavours to constantly develop the service, in order that its patients receive the highest quality and most up to date care.

Flexible working is required; our shifts are from 08:00 until 18:00, four times a week. However we do offer evening clinic in order to support our patients, so flexibility to work until 20:00 is essential.

This is a full time vacancy although part time applicants will be considered

This is a very patient-focused service and the successful candidate will need excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work across a range of different medical and surgical specialties. 

Main duties of the job

  • High standards of Professional Practice to ensure quality of patient care, experience and the patient journey
  • Developing own clinical practice, knowledge, skills and experience
  • Acting as a good role model
  • Supporting the team in ensuring that the clinical services are delivered to a high quality of care and that all compliance requirements such as CQC and contractual requirements are achieved.
  • To take charge of the Department in the absence of the Senior and Deputy Sister.
  • To support Senior Nursing Staff in all aspects of their duties and responsibilities
  • Assist the your line manager in formulation of action plans and implementation of new practices or changes to practice and policy
  • To organise and manage own time effectively to ensure the smooth running of clinics, assisting both patients and medical staff as necessary.
  • Undertake training and achievement of competencies required for treatments administered in the ENT Clinic including,  To be able to support Emergency Clinic and be able to support clinical staff in emergency procedures.
  • To be able to run nurse led clinics for wound care.
  • To be accountable and responsible to escalate any concerns to senior team in a timely manner
  • To follow NatSSIPS guidance on all invasive procedures in the clinic, such as: Written consent for all invasive procedure, follow Time in and Time out protocols, all instruments and swabs are accurately counted before and after procedure.

  • • Evidence of Continued Professional Development (CPD) clearly recorded for professional profile
  • • Knowledge of the management of in-patients and outpatients including evidence-based strategies
  • • Knowledge and experience of a range of approaches to the management of patients utilising critical clinical thinking
  • • Evidence of Multidisciplinary team working
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience in an outpatient setting
