Job overview

The Band 6 Pre-Assessment nurse will work as an autonomous practitioner with a caseload of complex patients within a team structure. The delivery of high quality, effective and compassionate care is essential to our organisation. Pre-Assessment is considered to be a pivotal part of the patient’s pathway ensuring the patients are in their optimal health for their procedures. The post holder will be responsible for leading the service in Winchester with band 7 and support across all sites Trust sites, Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover.

Main duties of the job

  • To practise autonomously, carrying a caseload of patients, supporting the team in the delivery of a seven-day, twenty-four-hour service for which you are responsible for or have been delegated the responsibility, this includes:
  • High standards of Professional Practice to ensure quality and safety of patient care, experience and the patient journey.
  • Ensuring the patients are fully informed about their procedure and be able to explain what to expect during the post operative recovery phase.
  • Specialised clinical practice, knowledge, skills and experience.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current level one NMC registration with post registration experience in pre assessment
  • First level degree or working towards one
Desirable criteria
  • Holder of History taking and physical assessment course

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant clinical experience in pre assessment
  • Demonstrates knowledge of policies, practices and procedures e.g. NHS national policies, standards, requirements and directions that relate to patient care.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience in area of Women's Health

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates an ability to prioritise own workload and responds appropriately to urgent and emergency situations
  • Communication and relationships: Able to present and receive complex information within a multi professional team. Ability to convey sensitive information in an empathetic manner to patients, relative/carers and staff
  • Demonstrates leadership in the management of change
  • The post holder will be expected to be physically fit in order to manage to exert light physical effort for short periods and moderate effort for several short periods during a shift
  • The post holder will be expected to manage, occasional, highly distressing, or highly emotional situations in an empathetic manner
