Thank you for your interest in working for Hampshire Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as a Healthcare Support Worker.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to personally make a difference to our patients lives and the lives of their carers and relatives every single day.  Our Healthcare Support Workers are at the heart of our multidisciplinary teams who support our patients by assisting our Registered Nurses in planning, delivering and evaluating care. This will require you to:

  • be able to communicate effectively with a broad range of individuals, both verbally and in writing;
  • share our commitment to maintaining high standards in everything we do;
  • demonstrate that you can work effectively within a team that behaves in accordance with our values.

The Healthcare Support Worker role is varied and busy as you will be working a variety of shifts including long days, nights, weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

It is essential that within your application you are able to demonstrate an understanding of the role and responsibilities, able to prove how you develop and maintain positive working relationships, along with evidencing how you would demonstrate our Trust values.

You must be a minimum of 18 years old to apply for the role and be willing to work a minimum of 23 hours per week. You must be able to commit to the standard shift pattern for this role which includes long days, nights, weekend and bank holidays.

We will be holding an in-person HCSW Interview Day on Thursday 12th December 2024 at  Education Centre, The Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester.  The event will include a presentation, talks from our clinical staff and a face-to-face interview. No further interview dates are available and you must be able to attend in person.

Person specification

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Completed Care Certificate or ability to complete within 6 months of appointment
  • Knowledge and skills gained through any combination of alternative study and/or employment experience
Desirable criteria
  • Level 2 and/or 3 qualification in Health and Social Care/Clinical Care or working towards
  • Confirmation of Secondary Education - GCSE grades (Minimum requirements: 1-3 or D-G (Department for Education: June 2017)) or Functional Skills at Level 1 or equivalent
  • GCSE Standard Pass Grades (4 and above or A-C (Department for Education: June 2017)

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience in a public facing/customer care role or environment
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience in a Health/Health and Social Care role
  • Understanding of NHS/Social care systems

Skills & Ability

Essential criteria
  • Good written and verbal communication in the English language
