Job overview

We seek to appoint a Community Dental Officer– Band A based  Herefordshire Dental Access centres, Part time hours will be considered. 

The Community Dental Service within WVT is a commissioned service comprising of 5 clinics; 2 clinics in Hereford city, 1 in Leominster, 1 in Ross-on-Wye and 1 in Ledbury. The service provides a high standard of oral health care to a wide range of patient groups including children and adults with specific needs.

These specific needs may include patients with complex medical and dental  requirements; anxiety management and/or treatment under sedation and patients with urgent dental needs who are unable to access dental care in the General Dental Services.

Applicants for the  post will be flexible, motivated and patient focused and possess full GDC registration and hold a Performer number;  evidence in a portfolio of up to date continuous professional development; be able to demonstrate leadership skills and relevant clinical experience; and have excellent communication skills with an understanding  and ability to be sensitive to the needs of relevant patient groups.

Plus £20,000 Dental Recruitment Incentive Scheme (Golden Hello) payment (pro rata if part time).

Main duties of the job

  •      To provide high quality treatment planning, preventative and urgent/routine NHS dental care treatment services for a wide range of patients, including children and adults with additional needs or with special dental requirements in accordance with NHS Regulations and provider requirements. Flexible patient centred approach to treatment planning and service provision
  •      Manage the day to day activities of the dental surgery in conjunction with the other members of the team. Maintaining proper standards appropriate to a clinical area, including control of infection procedures and the efficient and effective use of resources

 

·   Provision of urgent dental care for patients who cannot access NHS dental care

·  To accept referrals from our General Dental Service colleagues and provide a service which is complementary to other primary care providers.

·    prescribe appropriate items of dental care for delivery by other members of the dental team ensuring the most appropriate use of the available skill mix.

·     To ensure all treatment plans and care are explained fully to patients and that patient records are correctly noted.

You must be able to travel across Herefordshire in the delivery of dental care.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GDC registration with Licence to practise
  • BDS degree or equivalent
  • Be on a primary care performers list
  • Completed Vocational Dental Foundation Training or equivalent
  • Evidence of relevant continuing education and development
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate qualification in Special Care Dentistry and/or paediatric dentistry or postgraduate training in a relevant clinical subject or equivalent experience

Experiance and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Able to demonstrate Band A Salaried Primary Dentist competencies in .Clinical .Communication .Management and Leadership .Professionalism
  • Demonstrates knowledge of NHS patient charge regulations and contractual requirements including UDAs
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work flexibly to meet the needs of patients.
  • Excellent clinical skills
  • Experience of working with a wide of patient groups including children and adults with special needs
  • Wide experience of primary dental care provision
  • Good planning and organisation skills
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of participation in peer review and clinical supervision

  • Effective participation in and a commitment to clinical audit.
