The specialist Adult Bladder & Bowel Care Service for Hertfordshire Community Trust has an exciting opportunity for a Band 3 Healthcare Support Worker to join the team.
The successful applicant will demonstrate a keen interest in bladder & bowel care. In return we will offer you a comprehensive induction to learn new skills to enable you to support the specialist nurses within the team. A car driver with access to a vehicle for work is essential.
You will gain experience in continence management. You will be involved in conducting assessments with patients in their own homes and Care Homes. This role would be ideal for someone with an interest in fraility and dementia, gynaecology and urology and spinal injury and neurogenic conditions.
You will be working in an estrablished nurse-led friendly and supportive team with opportunities to progress your clinical career.
Main duties of the job
To work within the Adult Bladder & Bowel Care Service Specialist Team assisting with the provision of assessment and clinical care of a high standard to patients, with bladder and/or bowel dysfunction, in their own homes and Residential Care Homes.
To provide training for staff in care homes on aspects of continence promotion and incontinence management.
To support the registered nurses in the team with the delivery of bladder and bowel care training to trust staff and within other areas as required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To assess patients' continence needs in their own homes or within residential homes as directed by the Service Lead
- To report to the nursing team any change or deterioration in a patient's condition or any aspects of a patient's condition causing concern.
- To carry out all procedures/treatments within his/her personal competence and within constraints of the job description.
- To advise the Service Lead immediately of any untoward incidents.
- To take part in a range of bladder and bowel health promotion activities as directed by the Service Lead
- To respect patient's dignity, wishes and beliefs and obtain consent for specific activities related to bladder and bowel care.

Essential
Essential criteria
- Good standard of English & Mathematics
- Insight into the needs of patients and carers
- Able to work alone
- Excellent communication skills - both oral and written
- UK driving licence and access to car
- Basic IT skills
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge & Understanding of the NHS
- Experience of caring for people
