Job overview

We are recruiting for a part time Cancer Centre Receptionist who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

The Cancer Services at the Mount Vernon, Northwood is looking for a Receptionist to work as part of a dedicated and friendly Receptionist team.

The receptionist is responsible for welcoming the patients to the Cancer Centre to assist in the smooth running of the patients visit, by liaising with the nurses, radiographers, transport departments and other colleagues. 

The receptionist will rotate between the Radiotherapy reception, Chemotherapy Suite reception, Patient Registration. The post holder will be able to work in a busy and very demanding environment especially when covering all roles during periods of sickness or annual leave.

Main duties of the job

As a receptionist you will ensure that all of our patients are welcomed into the Cancer Centre and checked in for their appointment.

Deal with any queries from patients or staff that come in by phone or email, and to ensure that all patient appointments are made as required.

To provide comprehensive support to the reception team.

A close working relationship with team members is essential.

Ensure that knowledge and process of Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy regimes are fully known and kept up to date to ensure that the rotation between the Chemotherapy, Outpatient reception desks, and patient registration duties runs smoothly.

In addition, you will receive a High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of your basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £4,108 and a maximum payment of £5,177per annum pro rata.

Qualifications / Training

Essential criteria
  • 5 Grade A-C GCE or equivalent, including English & Maths
  • NVQ3 in customer Services or equivalent experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Educated to Degree level

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working both in a team and autonomously
  • Experience of working with difficult customers and challenging situations
  • Experience of working in a diverse environment, valuing equality for patients and staff
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working in the NHS
  • Previous experience in a Health or Care setting, including private patients

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Customer Care experience
  • Ability to work in a flexible atmosphere without close supervision.
  • Ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of multi-disciplinary staff.
  • Strong customer care skills, treating people with dignity and respect.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Previous receptionist experience

  • Experience of electronic patient record systems eg PAS
  • ECDL or equivalent
  • Understand Department of Health legislation relating to overseas visitors
