Clinical Director (GP) - Primary & Urgent Care - (up to 12 months FTC)

Job overview

Are you a visionary clinical leader ready to drive excellence and innovation in patient care? At HUC, we are seeking an inspiring Clinical Director to join our senior leadership team and make a lasting impact on the future of healthcare delivery.

HUC is a forward-thinking organisation committed to exceptional healthcare and continual patient-centred improvement. As a Clinical Director, you will be at the heart of strategic decision-making, working alongside our Chief Medical Officer and leadership team to shape the future of clinical services.

Clinical Directors are a vital element of HUC’s Senior Clinical Leadership team. They will work as a team alongside the Chief Medical Officer whilst being accountable for their own services, supporting them and line managing a team of Lead GPs. Clinical Directors will be embedded within the organisation’s senior leadership, working closely with non-clinical counterparts to ensure HUC continues to lead the way in clinical innovation whilst always prioritising the patient experience.

Main duties of the job

As a Clinical Director, you will:

  • Lead with intent: Set collaboration for cross-site decision-making with operational leaders to make sure our services remain safe, effective, and patient-centric.
  • Inspire excellence: Manage and mentor Lead GP to build a culture of teamwork, learning, and innovation.
  • Advocate for change: Drive quality improvement initiatives and compliance with clinical governance criteria.
  • Shape the Future: Lead workforce development through GP Vocational Training Schemes (VTS) and other educational programmes.
  • Represent and Influence: Be a senior ambassador for HUC to the stakeholders, commissioners, and regulatory bodies.

This role combines clinical and managerial responsibilities, offering a unique opportunity to lead transformative change while staying connected to hands-on patient care. Clinical duties will be performed on Mondays and Tuesdays (14:00 - 18:00) in St Albans IUCH. Remaining hours to be agreed.
