An exciting opportunity is available to work as a Decontamination Technician for West Herts Trust.

This involves working at the St Albans Cit Hospital Decontamination receipt and distribution units.

The post holder will be part of the Decontamination Team and will support the general smooth running of the department.

Main duties of the job

The Integrated Decontamination Team is responsible for ensuring the provision of appropriately decontaminated and quality assured surgical, endoscopic, and other sterile instruments to the Trust’s Theatre complexes, endoscope suites, outpatient’s departments, and other user locations. The smooth functioning of the team underpins in excess of £60m of activity and income for the Trust and is an absolutely essential element in the overall delivery of the Trust’s clinical services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To receive, return and distribute Sterile and contaminated re-usable surgical instruments to and from clinical departments throughout the Trust ensuring quality checking and both electronic and manual tracking is carried out at the required stages As part of an Integrated Decontamination.

Team the Integrated Decontamination Team Assistant may be required (with suitable notice) to work shifts at either of the sub teams for the Receipt and Distribution units.

Person specification

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good general Education and or experience of working in a busy healthcare setting.
Desirable criteria
  • City and Guilds “Decontamination” operators training certificate
  • NVQ level 2 or above attained in healthcare- based setting

Knowledge

Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of decontamination processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of West Hertfordshire Trust sites
  • Department’s orientation and locations

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a busy healthcare setting
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of receipt and distribution of sterile goods
  • Experience of Working in a busy HSSU/TSSU department or Endoscope Decontamination Unit.
