Job overview

We are recruiting for a  Voluntary Service Manager who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.  

This is a key position to take responsibility for a small, dynamic department and to develop a volunteer programme that will enhance the services provided by the Trust.  We want to provide high quality projects and initiatives, enabling, promoting and supporting the effective use of volunteers to improve patient experience and support staff. 

The post-holder will use technology, evidence and data to inform and support projects.

Main duties of the job

To develop a comprehensive volunteering strategy, to build on the positive impact volunteering has for our staff and patients.

Work in partnership with senior operational managers across the Trust to identify areas of need and develop appropriate roles.

You will develop and manage processes to ensure recruitment and development of suitably skilled volunteers.

Contribute to forward planning by keeping abreast of local and national developments and recommending future developments of the service to the Trust Board via the Complaints PALS and Patient and Carer Experience Lead. 

You will be develop, motivate, support and manage voluntary services staff. 

Ensure Trust staff are fully engaged with the volunteering strategy, and that their views and ideas inform its ongoing development and implementation.

Essential criteria
  • Educated to a degree level of equivalent experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience working with recruitment (processing DBS checks, interviewing etc.)
  • Experience of developing and leading a large scale volunteer programme
  • Experience of working in a complex organisation, negotiating with multiple decision makers and stakeholders
  • Experience of working at a senior level with the ability to communicate with all personnel.
  • Proven experience of good organisational skills such as organising projects and events.
  • Previous experience of managing a team of people with the ability to motivate staff to reach a common goal.
  • Experience of team working to achieve deadlines and objectives.
Desirable criteria
  • An understanding of the NHS and wider health and social care sector
  • Experience in writing bids.
  • Experience of producing communications in a variety of mediums.
  • Experience of working with partners across public/private and voluntary sectors.
