Job overview

We are recruiting for a Commercial & Contracts Officer who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

You will proactive support to the day-to-day contract management of a broad portfolio of Estates & Facilities contracts, and ultimately delivers the division strategy. You will play a key role in maintaining effective relationships with contractors providing services to the Trust. 

Supporting in the co-ordination of contract planning, negotiations, management, and reviews as well as ensuring efficient processes of monitoring are in place.

Main duties of the job

Assist the Senior Contracts & Performance Manager in effectively managing designated contracts within the division.

Supporting and advising Senior Contracts & Performance Manager and Commercial Manager with contracts negotiations, discussions and implementation involving where appropriate other managers within the division.

Assist in the co-ordination of the Trust’s cost improvement programme, preparing appropriate reports as required and ensuring all meetings and actions are logged.

Supporting the Head of Commercial and Senior Contracts & Performance Manager with any commercial issues or projects that may arise, and supporting/covering the Commercial and Property Officer in any related duties in instances of absence or leave.

To provide administrative support to the drafting of documents to support the Senior Contracts & Performance Manager or other relevant members of the department.

Support the implementation of project and service initiatives through timely and relevant information analysis and administrative support, in accordance with the agreed priorities of the Senior Contracts & Performance Manager.

To oversee and participate in monitoring the performance of internal and external contracts. To ensure contractors/ departments are complying with the service specifications in line with quality, quantity and cost and initiate measures to ensure compliance.

Qualifications / Training

Essential criteria
  • Good standard of general education to bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • HNC/HND or equivalent qualification and/or experience in relevant field
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence or recent continual personal development or other learning
  • Contract Capability Management Programme Foundation Level, or similar contracts management / commercial qualification

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant experience of working within an estates/facilities role or equivalent role
  • Evidence of decision-making, working on own initiative and to agreed deadlines.
  • Evidence of managing own workload.
  • Supervision of staff
  • Production of visual reports
  • Developing and maintaining systems
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of how facilities & estates services contracts are managed
  • Experience of working within the NHS or another public sector organization.

Skills

Knowledge

  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft word processing, excel and database packages.
  • Willingness to train in advanced word processing, excel and database software applications
  • Basic knowledge of current legislation/frameworks affecting facilities services e.g.: PLACE Assessments, PAM (Premises Assurance Model)
  • Knowledge of contracts management
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Information & Governance requirements within the NHS
