Job overview

We have 1 fixed term appointment available for 12 months in the Gastroenterology department. The post is full time and the post holder will be expected to participate in the general medicine rota. This is an excellent opportunity within Gastroenterology at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be working within the Gastroenterology team. This will involve working in a general medical gastroenterology ward rotating with the opportunity to do specialist Gastroenterology clinics and learn gastrointestinal endoscopy.

The trust will also look to supporting those doctors who are considering a career in gastroenterology in the attainment of Internal medicine competencies and in particular any IM3 equivalencies, which are required prior to applications for higher specialty training.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be involved in the day to day care of all patients who remain on Ward 8A

The post holder will be able to communicate effectively with nursing and medical staff of other disciplines, ancillary workers and paramedics in the interest of achieving efficient management of patients

The post holder will ensure close liaison with general practitioners, Local Authority social services staff, health visitors, community nursing services and other relevant services in relation to patients who require on-going care in the community

The post holder will undertake to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.   The post holder will undertake, exceptionally, to be available for such irregular commitments outside normal rostered duties as are essential for the continuity of patient care.

Working for our organisation

At East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, we are proud of the range of general and specialist services we provide and our 6,000 or so dedicated staff ensure our patients get the best care. Our ability to be flexible and innovative in the way in which we work and deliver our services to our catchment has never been more important than it is now.

We run the following hospitals:

  • The Lister Hospital, Stevenage
  • New Queen Elizabeth II (New QEII), Welwyn Garden City
  • Hertford County, Hertford
  • Mount Vernon Cancer Centre (MVCC), Northwood

We have ambitious plans to become an outstanding, patient-led Trust where dedicated staff provide high-quality, compassionate care to our patients.  We continue to undergo significant transformation and our staff and patients are at the heart of delivering this ambitious agenda.

We are committed to a positive work life balance for our employees.  This means that any employee is entitled to seek to work flexible working patterns and we are committed to listen and consider all requests. Such requests, of course, have to be made and considered formally, and will need to be balanced against service needs, but our starting point will always be to find ways to support making them happen.
