Job overview

A full-time vacancy (37.5 hours/week) has opened for a Radiographic Department Assistant to join our Radiology team at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals Trust. 

Duties will include: 

•    Assisting with transferring patients from A&E and other departments to radiology.

•    Welcoming all patients and service users to the department. 

•    Completing administrative processes and supporting patient flow through the department. 

•    Booking patients in for their examinations and directing patients to the relevant waiting areas. 

•    Answering telephone queries.

•    Assisting the transfer teams to move and direct patients around the department. 

•    Preparing the examination rooms and equipment for interventional cases. 

•    Assisting the Radiologists, Radiographers and Radiology Nurses during procedures. 

The successful candidate will be expected to join the A&E X-ray RDA rota, which includes 0830-1700 and 1300-2200 shifts. The rota includes weekdays, weekends and bank holidays.

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder is expected to be an effective member of the Radiology team, providing a high standard of service to our patients and Radiology staff colleagues.

This post is ideal for strong communicators, who enjoy being part of a close-knit team, whilst maintaining wider professional relationships with many disciplines within the hospital. 

The role includes a significant proportion of moving and handling duties, including pushing patient beds, trolleys and chairs and assisting in pat-sliding etc.

The successful candidate may be required to work across the three sites: Watford General hospital, St Albans City Hospital and Hemel Hempstead Hospital.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will provide direct patient care, maintenance of equipment and administrative duties including reception and clerical tasks and a high quality of service.

The post holder will help maintain the professional standards of the department and undertakes a range of delegated radiography-related duties.

The post holder will be assisting with transfer of patients to and from Radiology.

Person specification

Education and qualifications:

Essential criteria
  • GCSE qualification (Maths, English) or equivalent.
  • NVQ / Level 3 Customer Care, healthcare OR willingness to work towards an NVQ / Level 3 qualification.
  • Experience in a customer/patient facing role.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge/Experience of computer systems.

Knowledge:

Essential criteria
  • Understands the importance of patient confidentiality and information governance.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of the role and responsibilities of a radiology assistant.

Experience:

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a busy environment.
  • Experience of working in a customer orientated environment.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working in a caring/patient facing role and following healthcare protocols and procedures.
  • Experience of handling confidential information.
