An exciting opportunity has arisen at HPFT, We are recruiting to a new post,   Head of Allied Health Professionals, in our specialist services division. 

The Head of Allied Health Professions is a member of the senior management team and is responsible for ensuring AHP services are delivered to the high standards which will provide the best possible experience and outcome for service users across the trust.  

With delegated responsibility from the Clinical Director of Allied Health Therapies, the Head of AHPs provides professional leadership to all AHP professions across the Division. These include: art psychotherapists, dietitians, dramatherapists, music therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and speech and language therapists. The Head of AHPs is required to have detailed knowledge and understanding of the contribution to care and professional requirements of all AHP professions.

Main duties of the job

To lead and develop AHP Services within the Division and to contribute to the effective strategic and operational management of clinical services.

  • Initiate and contribute to the Division’s strategic direction, supporting operational services in meeting its objectives and implementing business plans.
  • Contribute to overall design and management of the services within the Division
  • Provide professional leadership to the AHP workforce  towards achievement of  strategic  goals  of  the  Division
  • Ensure AHP Services are delivered in ways which contribute to meeting the Trust’s strategic aims, national initiatives and are evidence based  and  cost  effective
  • Maintain and develop their knowledge regarding all AHP professions
  • Act as Professional Advisor to the Division at all levels and externally to key stake holders
  • To offer consultation regarding AHP aspects of care and expert opinions to colleagues on issues outside their remit and competence
  • Ensure systematic governance of AHP practice and ensure systems are in place for effective recruitment, appraisal, CPD, and supervision.
  • To work closely with Managing Directors and Service Line Leads to ensure the best deployment of AHP resources.
  • Ensure all AHPs are registered to practice with HCPC and act on any concerns related to fitness to practice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will be from any AHP background, would be expected to deliver clinical work at consultant level

  • To provide highly developed specialist assessments of service users, based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including standardised tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with service users, family members and others involved in the service user’s care.
  • To formulate plans for treatment and/or management of a client’s complex problems based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the service user’s problems and employing methods based upon evidence of efficiency.
  • To be responsible for implementing a range of highly specialist interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups adjusting and refining models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.
  • To make highly skilled evaluations and decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • Degree / relevant AHP professional qualification
  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Demonstrable evidence of robust and extended continuous professional development
  • Management qualification at Masters level or equivalent experience
  • Leadership qualification or equivalent experience
  • Qualification or demonstrable equivalent experience in Quality Improvement methodologies (QI)
Desirable criteria
  • Project or Program management qualification

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Significant health and/or social care leadership/management experience at a senior level in any relevant discipline

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY

Essential criteria
  • Experience of representing AHP professions within the context of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a wide range of AHP professions including theory and best practice
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of national and local health care policy
  • Understanding of local and national governance and scrutiny requirements
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Experience of complex audits using research methodology
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of leading and implementing change
