Senior Assistant Healthcare Scientist in Sample Reception

Job overview

We are looking for suitably qualified applicants to work as a Senior Assistant Healthcare Scientist within the Sample Reception department in Blood Sciences, WHH. You must have at least 6 months experience of working within an accredited Pathology department. 

The hours will be 37.5 hours week, with a combination of early, late & weekend shifts including bank holidays  - flexibility is essential for this post.

The postholder will work within the Sample Reception department, supporting the Sample Reception Manager and carrying out supervisory tasks as required. This role also includes receiving, sorting, checking and booking pathology samples on to LIMS, data entry and assisting with pre-analytical duties including other basic laboratory tasks. The applicant must have exceptional customer-service skills and telephone manner, be a good team player and have a keen eye for detail being able to carry out detailed and repetitive tasks; good keyboard skills are required as well as high level of accuracy, good literacy and numeracy skills.      

The ideal candidate should be able to recognise what constitutes a high-level quality service, as well as an understanding of ISO accreditation standards.

Pathology holds UKAS Accreditation and are an IBMS training laboratory.

To work in any section of the department and undertake duties to support Biomedical Scientists in the preparation and examination of biological samples

Essential criteria
  • Good standard of education eg Mathematics, English and Science GCSE or equivalent
  • NVQ 3 or ‘A’ Level equivalent A

Clinical skills and experience
