Pre-Registration Shortened Midwifery Programme

Band 5

Job overview

We are offering an exciting opportunity within our Maternity Services at East Kent Hospital University Foundation Trust in our shortened midwifery programme. This provides registered nurses with a training programme to become registered midwives.

It is an innovative, flexible, work based course for Qualified Adult Nurses who want to become Midwives. It will develop your skills and knowledge so that you can become a responsive, confident Midwife able to care for parents and their babies.

Our maternity units are based in Ashford and Margate, Kent, both areas having high speed rail links to London and easy access to Europe. We serve a diverse population of women, referred for both high risk and low risk pregnancies and with a professional and compassionate team of midwives and obstetricians.

Main duties of the job

East Kent midwives are proud to care for their women. Working for us will enable you to practice in an environment that attracts and retains an outstanding calibre of staff. Our Clinical Skills Facilitators will support you to provide a high standard of care to our patients when assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care.

Successful applicants will work towards a shortened midwifery course with Kingston University your tuition fees will be paid for, whilst working as a band 5 midwife with EKHUFT. During these 24 months you will be expected to work as a rotational midwife in the high risk labour ward, antenatal and postnatal ward, while achieving your core competencies.

Working for our organisation

We are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with five
hospitals and community clinics serving a local population of around 800,000 people. Our vision is 'great healthcare from great people'. Everything we do is guided by our values: 'People feel cared for, safe, respected and confident that we are making a difference’. We have a new way of working at East Kent Hospitals, called 'We care'. It's about empowering frontline staff to lead improvements day-to-day. We're looking for compassionate people to be part of our improvement journey for the patients, families and carers we care for every day.

Applications for this role should be written by the applicant. If artificial intelligence (AI) programmes are used then the application may be rejected due to this document being an important part of the assessment process. This does not prevent applicants seeking appropriate support with applications should they need to for the purposes of any declared disability.
