Highly Specialist Acute Paediatric Physiotherapist

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Women’s and Children’s Care Group who have a strong commitment to delivering safe services to children and young people.
This is a new post for a Paediatric Physiotherapist to establish a paediatric inpatient service, where you will join a small team of passionate MDT clinicians who work across Paediatric Inpatients, to provide a high standard of physiotherapy to inpatients at the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital, Margate and the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.

- To provide specialist assessment, treatment, and goal setting of patients. There will be a respiratory bias, but the caseload will span orthopaedics and neurology. Some patients may have complex and/or chronic presentations. To determine clinical diagnosis and Physiotherapy treatment indicated. To maintain records as an autonomous practitioner.
- You will develop highly-specialist skills under the guidance of the senior staff.
- To provide clinical cross cover within your team as delegated by your Clinical Team Lead.
- To attend clinical level discussions / meetings relating to your area of work as delegated by your Clinical Team Lead.
- To communicate effectively with patients and carers routine and potentially complex, sensitive, or distressing information; in order to provide patient centred care, to encourage self-management, maximise rehabilitation potential, and to ensure understanding of the condition. Patients may have communication, perceptual or cognitive/understanding difficulties.

• Provide day to day operational management of the Paediatric Physiotherapy service based at either William Harvey or QEQM Hospital in planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the Paediatric Physiotherapy Service on a day-to-day basis on the ward.
• Provide leadership to the Physiotherapy team within a team based structure as a specialist within the field of acute paediatric physiotherapy.
• As an autonomous practitioner to carry out advanced assessment and treatment of a specialist caseload of patients within Paediatrics and Neonates who may have complex and/or chronic presentation, and to determine clinical diagnoses and physiotherapy treatment indicated, and to maintain records.
• To provide specialist advice to other professionals both within the Trust and outside agencies e.g. GPs, carers.
• To be responsible for teaching, supervision and appraisal of Junior Physiotherapists and undergraduate students to ensure a high quality of clinical care within the speciality.
• To be responsible for the planning, implementation and evaluation of paediatric respiratory on-call competencies throughout the trust. Provide on-going training to inpatient physiotherapy colleagues working the on-call rota.
To adhere to Trust policies and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Code of Conduct and be guided by National Standards where they exist to develop departmental policies.

Qualifications and experience

- BSC Physiotherapy
- Minimum 2 years Paediatric experience (acute/ community) at minimal Band 6

- Significant and relevant post graduation education in paediatric PT
- Experience in Service set up/ development within MDT
Professional Registration
