Job overview

As a Hospital Theatre Support Worker, you will be integral to the efficient functioning of medical procedures within the hospital's operating theatres. Your primary responsibilities will involve assisting surgical teams in preparing operating rooms, organising and maintaining surgical instruments and equipment, and ensuring a clean and sterile environment. You will also provide support to medical staff during procedures, including handing them instruments and supplies as needed. Additionally, you will be responsible for transporting patients to and from the operating theatre, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the process. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to work well under pressure, and a commitment to upholding strict hygiene and safety protocols in a healthcare setting

Main duties of the job

Previous experience is not essential although some exposure /involvement in a care setting is desirable. In house training will be provided. Successful  candidate must have the ability to work under pressure.

Candidates must have a flexible approach to working and will play an integral part in the department’s multi-disciplinary team.

The successful candidate will be required to work as part of a large team, providing support to the registered staff. Effective organisational and communication skills are essential. Hours of duty will include shift rotation and on calls.

You will be required to work in all Theatres at KCH

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • A good level of general education
  • A willingness to undertake Care Certificate
  • Apprenticeship Level 2 in Health & Safety Care.

Clinical Skills and Experience

Essential criteria
  • The ability to converse at ease with patients and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post
  • Team Player
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all members of the health care team as well as patients and their relatives
  • Adhere to the Moving and Handling policy
  • Basic Life Support
  • Ability to undertake moderate physical effort safely.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience is not essential although some exposure/involvement in a care setting is desirable

  • The post holder will willingly develop the skills through unit competencies required to fulfil the whole range of duties of the post.
  • Literate and numerate, able to perform tasks to a high standard under supervision
