Job overview

An exciting vacancy has arisen for a full time Medical Secretary to join our friendly team in Trauma & Orthopaedics at the William Harvey Hospital.

To provide comprehensive administrative and clerical support to consultants and their teams.

Work in a team based secretarial service providing support for each other and ensuring continuity of service.

To provide comprehensive administrative, clerical and audio typing to support Consultants, Registrars and the wider trauma and orthopaedic team.

 

·       Work in a team based secretarial service, providing support for each other and ensuring continuity of service.

 

·       Act as a person of liaison between patients, GPs, other staff and outside agencies.

Main duties of the job

Act as a first point of contact on behalf of the consultant team and the Trust and deal effectively and courteously with all enquiries from GP, patients and other departments.

Assess all enquiries, manage these enquiries to ensure a safe and smooth pathway for all our patients.

Prioritise workload, working on own initiative to ensure patients are seen in a timely fashion and in line with Trust policies and targets.

Audio clinical letters and other correspondence as required by the Consultant and his team and within  agreed timeframes. Proactively take forward any instructions from the medical team. Ensure clinics are always fully utilised. 

Use of multiple IT systems, EPR, PAS, EDN, Sunrise

Essential criteria
  • GCSE in English or equivalent / 2 Years NHS experience
  • Computer literate including Word and use of other packages
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Level 2, RSA Level 2, or equivalent experience
  • Previous Medical Secretarial Experience T&O

Skills and experience

Essential criteria
  • Good keyboard skills
  • Data entry, text processing, storage of data, numeracy, accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good organisational skills
Desirable criteria
  • Previous use and knowledge of NHS systems
  • Previous Medical Secretarial Experience T&O
  • Audio typing
