  • On Call Arrangements:

There is a four tier on-call structure for Urology and Vascular lead by the on-call Consultant who is on-call for 24 hours. This direct supervision provides an excellent opportunity for training whilst participating in emergency duties. Skills will be developed in the management of patients.

The on-call commitments should approximate to a 1 in 6. There may be some change in the pattern of weekend and night time cover as staffing levels change. The on-call duties of the post-holder will be dependent on competence and experience.  This will include all routine duties and will primarily be responsible as first on-call for wards in Urology and Vascular at the Kent & Canterbury Site.

An experienced post-holder would be expected to cover the Urology and Vascular wards as well as supporting the emergency department, theatres and ITU unit

  • Simulation activities will take place on all ‘elective’ days of the rota, i.e. when not on long day /nights (emergency clinical rota)

The Kent & Medway Medical School (KMMS) will be Kent and Medway’s first ever medical school, bringing together the existing centres of excellence in health and medical education provided by the two universities, and local healthcare organisations such as East Kent Hospitals University Foundation Trust. It will offer a new model of patient-focused medical education.

There will be regular high-fidelity simulation-based learning for the local Foundation programme doctors as well as in house training. You will undertake four months training in each of the following areas, Vascular, Urology and Peri operative care of older people undergoing surgery (POPS). The post-holder will be encouraged to develop multi-professional learning in a variety of clinical specialities and teaching for final year medical students.
