Senior Clinical Fellow in Anaesthetics and Critical Care
NHS Medical & Dental: Senior Clinical Fellow
Job overview
The clinical fellows may be asked to cover general anaesthesia (theatres), ITU, additional floater (4th on call), or obstetrics on calls with trainees and Specialist Registrars. The appointees may rotate between these rotas over time. The commitments will vary depending on skill mix available, interests of individual and needs of service delivery. The post holders will be expected to work daytime sessions at both Queen Mary’s Hospital and Darent Valley Hospital. It is possible but unlikely that the appointee may have to cover the ECU on call rota at Sidcup. Senior fellows will be expected to cover areas like theatres, obstetrics and ITU. When at DVH, they will be expected to support the ST1/2 in the management of general anaesthesia under the supervision of the ITU Consultant and Anaesthetic Consultant for out-of-hours, as well as supporting the care delivery within the operating theatres. When on-call in QMH, the fellows are responsible for the management of the patients in ECU at Queen Mary's Hospital. They will be expected to support Resident Surgical Officers (RSO) at QMH. The post holder will collaborate and be a member of the Cardiac Arrest and Trauma Team.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Fellows are expected to participate in the preoperative assessment of patients undergoing elective or emergency surgery and to attend theatre sessions as indicated on the weekly rota. The above-mentioned duties may need to be varied to meet the needs of the Service. The appointee will cover anaesthetic lists (with appropriate supervision) at Darent Valley Hospital & Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup. These lists include specialties like Gen Surgery, Major Colorectal, Urology, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics and daily CEPOD (Consultant led) lists. There are also dedicated daily trauma lists, varying from all day to sessional lists, including provision over the weekend.
