We have an exciting opening for a skilled and experienced Data Warehouse Developer to join our busy Data Warehouse & BI Team and become involved with a variety of work and projects including development of new and existing processes.

If you are one of the rare people who can offer a resourceful approach using a variety of methods and techniques to implement high performing processes and ensure robust ETL and Architecture practices, and have a keen interest in ensuring providing better data systems to the BI Team, Trust and the wider networks, then we want to hear from you!

Main duties of the job

Duties include:

  • Develop and implement Data Warehouse processes for new and existing systems and data flows
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues occurring with Data Warehouse processes and BI processes
  • Develop and implement streamlining and automation of BI reports and practices
  • Support the Data Warehouse Manager on the timely delivery of ETL and Data configurations of digital systems and projects
  • Supervising junior Data Warehouse staff
  • Support in the maintenance of the Trusts Data Warehouse
  • Support and train junior staff where appropriate

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To be the key part of the Business Intelligence team developing and maintaining the Trust’s SQL Server Data Warehouse. Provide specialist advice on information reporting and database development.

Investigate and lead on various options for development of reporting within the Trust.

To liaise with Consultants and Managers in order to provide expert knowledge to identify areas which require data quality improvement and lead on such improvement projects until completion.  To provide data quality corrective and coaching support to staff at a more junior level within the team. 

To demonstrate and develop a high understanding of the importance of Data Quality and Data Protection throughout the Trust including administrative staff and clinicians.

Person specification

Education and Training

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
  • Qualification in an Information/IT related discipline.
  • GCSE / O level (or equivalent) in English & Maths.
Desirable criteria
  • Management related qualification
  • Microsoft Certifications for SQL Server

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Minimum 3 years experience working in the NHS with at least 1 year within an Acute Provider organisation.
  • Minimum 3 years experience of designing, developing and supporting databases (or data warehouses).
  • Minimum 3 years experience of TSQL using complex data synonymous with the NHS.
  • Demonstrable experience of MS SQL Server applications, including SSIS & SSRS
  • Familiar with a range of Reporting Tools e.g. Excel, Access
  • Good knowledge of current national policies relating to NHS Information and ICT arenas.
  • Working knowledge of PbR.
Desirable criteria
  • Familiar with Visual Basic
  • At least a years experience of supervising or managing staff
  • Experience in developing Qlikview Reports

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, being able to communicate complex technical issues to non-technical staff both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to build working relationships and networks with individuals and groups of staff at all levels of responsibility within the Trust, and with external organisations.

  • Able to work on own initiative as well as deliver training and knowledge transfer to other Trust staff.
