Job overview
The post holder will be responsible for co-ordinating the ongoing skills of the Endoscopy nursing team both for DVH and QMH sites.
The post holder will need to have a good knowledge of all of the procedures carried out in the Endoscopy departments and be able to train and develop staff.
The post holder will guide new and experienced staff through competencies using the JAG JETS system.
The post holder will be expected to provide professional leadership outside of the department by actively contributing to Directorate and Trust wide projects.
Main duties of the job
Ensure that standards are maintained at optimum levels, always acting as the advocate for patients, relatives and staff by protecting their rights and dignity.
Act as an effective role model to junior staff and students.
Ensure that the patients are processed through the department in a safe and timely manner as per National targets.
Meet all Endoscopy staff within the first few weeks of employment to assess training needs and discuss education and training plan tailored to the individual.
Observe new and existing clinical Endoscopy staff in practice to assess for JETS competencies.
Provide cover where required in the Endoscopy units to release staff for training.
Undertake JETS workforce courses and faculty training.
Support Endoscopy nurses through the revalidation process
Organise Endoscopy specific training for all staff and co-ordinate training days.
Ensure that all nursing records and documentation are completed accurately and legibly to meet the Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust policies, NMC recommendations and legal requirements.
Maintain own professional practice and have knowledge of new developments.
Be aware of relevant nursing research and promote and participate in nursing research initiatives.

Essential criteria
- • Registered Nurse on the NMC register
- • Educated to degree level or working towards
- • Recognised Practice Assessor Course
- • Evidence of CPD . Evidence of participation in training/learning development
- • Teaching and assessment qualification
- • Computer Literacy
Desirable criteria
- • Management training
- • Coaching training
- • Endoscopy specific course
Knowledge and skills
Essential criteria
- • Knowledge of Endoscopy environment and working practices
- • Current evidence-based practice/proficiency in area of expertise
- • Detailed knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic Endoscopic procedures
- • Managerial and leadership skills
- • Ability to manage change at ward level/dept. level
- • Understanding of JAG/GRS standards and JETS workforce
Desirable criteria
- • Teaching and assessment skills
- • Extended IT skills
- • Ability to develop and deliver presentations locally
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Sufficient experience within Endoscopy at Band 6 or relevant management experience
- • Evidence of dealing with difficult situations
- • Proven track record in change management, team leadership and performance management
- • Post registration experience in clinical practice relevant to Endoscopy
Desirable criteria
- • Evidence of implementing change

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
