Aspen - Operational Lead Midwife

Job overview

The post holder will work closely with the Senior Midwifery Management team and the existing Band 7 midwives, to ensure that Aspen ward is operationally safe, effective and well led. They will have a sound clinical knowledge base, and a passion for promoting team culture, which supports and encourages innovators and motivators.

Main duties of the job

They will maintain a visible professional presence where patients, carers and staff can turn to for senior assistance, advice and support and upon whom they can rely to ensure that the fundamental and specialist aspects of care are met..

The post includes the management of staff and being accountable for the quality of services (both clinical and non-clinical) delivered within the span of authority. 

The post holder will also be included in the Maternity Operational Safety Co-ordinator’s rota and will be expected to ensure the effective and safe running of the wider maternity unit during that allocation.

Person specification

Education and Training

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife with extensive midwifery experience
  • Examination of the Newborn course and current NIPE practitioner
  • Teaching and Assessing or equivalent mentorship course.
  • Professional expertise acquired through CPD
Desirable criteria
  • Professional Leadership course

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to function autonomously as a midwifery practitioner and operational leader, as well as to be part of a multi- disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and an understanding of current Professional issues and initiatives
  • Able to demonstrate clinical leadership
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrate knowledge of change management and CQI methodologies

Experience

Essential criteria
  • All round midwifery experience and be skilled and experienced in all required competencies.
  • Evidence of leadership development
Desirable criteria
  • Has experience of/willing to participate in midwifery related research and audit.
  • Previous Managerial experience
