Job overview

Willow ward is a 26 bedded general paediatric ward caring for children aged 0-16 years with a variety of medical, surgical and orthopaedic conditions. 

We are seeking experienced Registered Children’s Nurses to compliment the team on our general paediatric ward Willow,  A vacancy has arisen for Band 6 Registered Children’s Nurses to join our current team of Band 6 nurses in order to provide senior nursing leadership to Willow . 

If you are an Internationally Educated Nurse  and are interested in applying for this role, you will need to have submitted your registration for your Paediatric NMC pin. If you have applied for an Adult NMC pin, unfortunately we cannot consider you for this role.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking experienced Paediatric nurses to work in this area and aid us in the development and care of children and young people who require enhanced nursing care. 

 The successful applicant will need to have:

A commitment to caring for sick children and leading the nursing team in advancing paediatric practice

First level registration with the NMC as a Children’s Nurse

Experience in an acute paediatric clinical setting

A specific area of interest in an acute paediatric nursing setting.

A commitment to continuing to develop your own professional development

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a member of the Band 6 Nurse Co-ordinator team, you will be in charge of Willow on a shift by shift basis throughout the 24 hr period, working closely with and supporting the Band 6 and Band 5 nurses. You will be supported in this role by a Senior Sister, Matron and Practice Development Nurses, and work closely with the Consultant of the week, to ensure your nursing leadership provides a high standard of nursing care, patient safety and experience throughout the 24 hr period.

Essential criteria
  • Registration as a children’s nurse on the NMC register
  • Practice Assessor / Practice Supervisor
  • Committed to personal professional development and evidence of further study
  • Diploma or degree
  • PALS/EPLS
Desirable criteria
  • • Cannulation /phlebotomy skills

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • At least five years experience working in an acute paediatric care environment
  • • Previous management experience
  • • Committed to developing role as Sister/Charge Nurse
  • • Willing to take charge of the ward/PAU and deputise for the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse
  • • In depth knowledge of child protection
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience of other care settings
