Paediatric Day- Care Staff Nurse

Band 5

12 month fixed term contract 

We are seeking Band 5 Registered Children’s Nurses to join our team to work  in Willow Ward Day care. 

Willow ward Day care is a unit which offers a range of Surgical day care procedures and Medical treatments and investigations which are not suitable for a outpatient setting. We offer a number of Surgical lists within different specialities and a specialist Pre-assessment clinic. If you are enthusiastic about outstanding surgical care and would like to strengthen an already excellent team then please join us a DVH. 

 “If you are an Internationally Educated Nurse  and are interested in apply for this role, you will need to have submitted your registration for your Paediatric NMC pin. If you have applied for an Adult NMC pin, unfortunately we cannot consider you for this role”.

We are currently in the process of developing level 2 paediatric critical care beds if you have experience of working in a Paediatric Intensive Care we would love to hear from you.

The successful applicant will need to have:

1) A commitment to caring for sick children and supporting the senior nursing team in advancing paediatric practice.

2)First level registration with the NMC as a Children’s Nurse .

3) An interest in acute paediatric nursing, and care of the child in the assessment/HDU environment.

4)Commitment to continuing your own personal professional development

Within the ward  environment you will be supported by a Senior Sister and team of Band 6 Sisters.

Clinical responsibilities: 
1.1 Assesses the care needs of babies, children and adolescents and develops programmes of care in relation to the needs of the child and family
1.2 Implements programmes of nursing care and evaluates their effectiveness, ensuring that the care plan provides a continuous record of progress, response to treatment, rehabilitation and nursing care
1.3 Work in partnership with children and their families in order to support and encourage involvement in their care, thus supporting family centred care
1.4 Support parents, carers, siblings and other members of the child’s support network as appropriate
1.5 Assists in setting and maintaining optimum standards of nursing care, ensuring that nursing guidelines and policies are adhered to
1.6 Be involved in orientating children and their families to the environment on Willow day-care 
1.7 Participates in the reception, care and discharge of children ensuring they receive safe and competent care during their stay
1.8 Receives with courtesy children, their families and visitors into the ward and outpatient area
1.9 Chaperones children, and accompanies them to other wards, departments, hospitals etc. as requested by the nurse in charge
1.10 Is aware of the spiritual, psychological and emotional needs of 
the child and their family and endeavours to meet these at all times
1.11 Help prepare children and their families for discharge addressing any practical, emotional or psychological issues and ensuring that there are clear plans for the future care of the child
1.12 Liase with the Children’s Community Nursing Team, GP, Social Services, Health Visitor, Community Midwife or School Nurse to identify issues for children and their families on discharge
1.13 Assists in maintaining custody of all drugs by checking, storing and administering them in line with Trust policy
1.14 Is aware of the location of emergency and resuscitation equipment and procedures and participates in the checking of emergency equipment each shift
1.15 Responsible for the researching, development and undertaking of nurse led clinics for children and their families.
1.16 Responsible for liaison with the hospital play specialist team in relation to provision of play facilities for children in all areas
