We are excited to offer this pharmacist role, working with diabetes and endocrinology  services at Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust.

Our innovative clinical pharmacy team are looking for a self-motivated clinical pharmacist to join us in our diabetes and endocrinology services. You will work closely with our diabetes team and lead clinical pharmacist to develop and deliver pharmaceutical services to our diabetes and endocrinology patients in both an inpatient and outpatient setting. You will also lead and develop our clinical pharmacy input to lipidology services.

Our Band 7 Pharmacist starting salary is £45,753 to £52,067 depending on experience; where we will support your development up to the Band 8a role.

 A Band 8 Principal Pharmacist role is also available dependent on experience and specialty. For further discussion.

A relocation package is available for Pharmacists relocating to Dartford.

Applicants must be currently registered with the GPhC as a pharmacist and have an interest in diabetes and endocrinology medicine. Applicants should also be willing to work toward (if not already achieved) an independent prescribing qualification. Previous UK hospital pharmacy experience is desirable.

You will have regular clinical commitment working with our dedicated medicine management trained and accuracy checking pharmacy technicians who are fully integrated into the dispensary and ward service providing a full team approach to support near-patient medicines optimisation on the wards.

This post gives an ideal opportunity to utilise an independent prescribing qualification or work towards this and we will support you as you enhance and expand your specialist knowledge.

The post holder will have responsibility for leadership and development of clinical pharmacy services to endocrine and medical directorates including outpatient clinics.

They will be responsible as the expert in diabetes medication and pharmacy liaison with the multidisciplinary diabetes department within the Trust and wider health economy. They will act as the pharmacy liaison with the lipidology specialist service within the Trust.

They will utilise the independent prescribing qualification to develop safe and effective medicines optimisation in the diabetes inpatient and outpatient settings and lipidology services.

They will work within the multidisciplinary team to drive the national diabetes agenda incorporating education and training in the hospital and primary care and lead pharmacy response to medication safety incidents involving insulin improving patient safety.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

  • Post graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent.
  • Independent prescriber (or willing to work towards)
  • Evidence of CPD

  • Management and leadership qualification
  • MSc or equivalent postgraduate qualification in Clinical Pharmacy or other appropriate discipline
  • Practice/Educational Supervisor Accreditation or equivalent teaching accreditation

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience working as a band 7 Pharmacist
  • Experience of writing protocols and standards
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary clinical pharmacy setting

  • Clinical Pharmacy teaching skills.
  • Demonstrable use of audit/research to improve practice

KNOWLEDGE

  • Demonstrates knowledge of national and local guidelines relating to specialism that need to be adhered to
  • Advanced computer literacy including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Budgetary control skills
  • Awareness of current practice and policy affecting pharmacy practice in the NHS & understanding the NHS structure
  • Broad pharmaceutical knowledge relating to general medicine and core medical specialities
  • Good communication skills
  • Good interpersonal, including influencing skills.
