lead Superintendent Sonographer

Job overview

The post holder will be a highly experienced, qualified Sonographer, leading and developing the Ultrasound departments and accountable for the modality’s professional actions. They will be accountable for the delivery of a safe, high quality ultrasound service to meet key performance measures against national and local requirements. This includes all current and future US services, delivered cross site, across Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust.

They will be responsible for the strategic vision for the ultrasound service and representing the service at a senior level within the Trust and at external forums. They will provide line management and professional leadership for the senior sonographer team through mentorship, teaching, appraisal and the application of human resource policies.

Main duties of the job

They will have a delegated budgetary responsibility for specialist service ensuring a cost effective approach is adopted.

The post holder will provide specialist education and training to other staff. They will provide expert knowledge and leadership within the modality for the development of strategies to improve quality, efficiency and productivity.

Education and Training

Essential criteria
  • • Masters level or equivalent experience
  • • Degree in Radiography or equivalent.
  • • HCPC registration. / Evidence of CPD
Desirable criteria
  • • Management degree

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • • Wide range of US technique / knowledge to expert level
  • • Human resource management
  • • Clinical and Information governance experience
  • • Radiology information systems. / PACS high level understanding
Desirable criteria
  • • Budget management

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Service Lead
  • • Extensive and advanced practice/experience (at band 8a level) in general Ultrasound and at least one other specialist area i.e. vascular, MSK, gynae, small parts.
  • • Risk / complaints / incident management.
  • • People and resource management. / Project management experience
Desirable criteria
  • • Teaching / Coaching.
