Job overview

Darent Valley Hospital is an Acute general hospital serving patients from the expanding communities of West Kent.  Our Division is the largest in the Trust and we are looking to expand the Respiratory Services team with this role.

We are looking for a dynamic and innovative individual to join our busy, expanding Respiratory physiology department. You would be part of the respiratory services team which consists of other Respiratory Specialists practitioners.

 The primary aim of this post is to practice and participate in a range of respiratory diagnostic procedures and to assist the specialist respiratory physiologist in practicing advanced respiratory procedures.

 The post holder will have the opportunity to develop skills in all areas of non-invasive respiratory physiology (full lung function, transfer factor, lung volume (body Box) allergy skin test, sleep study set-up with overnight oximetry and capillary blood gas.

The post Holder should have a science based degree or equivalent in Physiology. The post holder should have ARTP Part 1 (Minimum) and be enrolled on the RCCP register or working towards this. 

Main duties of the job

As part of the development opportunity, the post holder will be required to complete ARTP training within 18 months. Following successful completion of this training, the post holder will progress to a band 6. 

 Once trained, the post holder will be expected to work unsupervised in all areas and be responsible for the day-to-day running of any area in which they are working. They will work collaboratively with the Senior Respiratory Physiologist, Respiratory Consultants, specialist nurses and practitioners across the speciality and Trust as a whole.

 The post holder will ensure that all patients are treated with compassion, dignity and respect, placing value on the diversity of the local community and beyond.

The post holder should be competent and have relevant clinical experience in performing dynamic and relaxed spirometry (including reversibility), gas transfer tests and helium dilution. To have the ability to manage multiple and varied tasks with enthusiasm and prioritise workload with attention to detail.

The post holder will work collaboratively with the Senior Respiratory Physiologist, Respiratory Consultants, specialist nurses and practitioners across the specialty and Trust as a whole.
