Applications are invited for Consultant Physicians in Respiratory & General (Internal) Medicine as part of the Medicine Division here at Darent Valley Hospital. We are delighted to offer a new and exciting opportunity for substantive Respiratory Consultants to join the Respiratory team at Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust. The positions have become available following the approval of a business case for the review, expansion and innovation of our current services.

Main duties of the job

We are delighted to offer a new and exciting opportunity for Respiratory Consultants to join the  Respiratory team at Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust. 

Positions for additional Respiratory Specialist Nurses and Physiologists to join our substantive team are also being considered. We have recognised the need for expansion of the capacity within Respiratory to  help meet the demand and offer further services to our patients

The Respiratory Department is aspiring to create a Respiratory Outpatient Clinical area with dedicated facilities for 5 exclusive outpatient clinic rooms, a (pleural) procedure room, MDT/conferencing and training facilities, and two new lung function labs. We are also developing a 6-bedded inpatient 
Respiratory Support Unit within the Respiratory Ward to provide monitored Level 1 care to patients with  Respiratory failure

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This post will be an additional position to the existing Respiratory team in recognition of the need to expand both capacity and offer innovative evidence based respiratory care to our local population.

The post holder will have the option to join the General Physician on-call rota (1 in 16) for non-selected 
acute take. This consists of post take ward rounds on the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) or outlier wards in the 
morning and then post take ward rounds in the evening. 

We provide a multitude of specialist Respiratory Services including: 

  • Interventional Pulmonology sessions for bronchoscopy, EBUS TBNA, Medical Thoracoscopy & tunnelled indwelling pleural catheters.
  • Lung Cancer Clinics & MDT
  • Inpatient Pleural service
  • Ambulatory Pleural Service
  • COPD MDT
  • Respiratory Physiology services
  • TB service
  • Bronchiectasis clinics

  

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GMC Recognised Medical Degree (MBBS or Equivalent).
  • MRCP (UK or Ireland) or equivalent.
  • CCT in Respiratory & General (Internal) Medicine or be eligible for CCT within 6 months of interview date.
Desirable criteria
  • Other degrees, e.g. BSc MSc, MD, PhD.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Full and independent management of clinical patient workload.
Desirable criteria
  • Level 1 competent in Pleural Ultrasound
  • Sub specialist interest: NIV, Sleep, ILD, Pleural disease

Clinical Governance

Essential criteria
  • Involvement and understanding of Clinical Governance and Clinical Audit.

Teaching

Essential criteria
  • Ability to teach and support learning activities of medical undergraduates, junior medical, nursing, technical and other clinical staff.

Research

Essential criteria
  • Experience of collaborative clinical or laboratory research.
Desirable criteria
  • To have published clinical work in peer-reviewed journals.

Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Commitment to Continuing Medical Education.
  • Awareness of current general medical practices.
  • Computer-literate in office applications (word processing, presentation, spreadsheet and database analysis)
  • Ability to use internet applications (Web and E-mail)
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of IT-based patient information systems.
