Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Specialty Doctor to join our Community Mental Health Team at Medway, Gillingham, Kent.

This is a 10 PA post however the Trust would welcome a discussion with individuals looking for a more flexible working pattern to support work-life balance.

Applicants must have full registration with the GMC including licence to practice. 

MHA Section 12(2) Approval holders will contribute to a middle-tier non-residential on call rota. Specialty doctors who do not hold Section 12 (2) Approval are expected to work towards this and will be supported to do so.

Main duties of the job

  • This is a 10 PA per working week post within the Medway locality, providing senior medical input to the community mental health service, including providing initial assessment, offering follow up reviews for patients requiring short-term input from the team and CPA Reviews for patients with long-term needs on the Enhanced CPA Pathway. 
    The post holder will have a joint caseload with other clinicians in the team. They will be expected to work with other clinicians in keeping with the trust Lone Working Policy.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
Desirable criteria
  • MRCPsych OR a specialist qualification from an EU country that complies with EU directive 2005/36/EU.

Eligibility

Essential criteria
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise.
Desirable criteria
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warnings and conditions on practice.
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 6 months of appointment

Transport

Essential criteria
  • Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative

Clinical Skills, Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • At least 4 years postgraduate experience, including at least 2 years in core psychiatry training programme
  • Good knowledge in specialty
  • Good clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate experience in specialty

Academic skills and life-long learning

Essential criteria
  • Participated in continuous professional development
  • Able to use and appraise clinical evidence
  • Has actively participated in clinical audit.
Desirable criteria
  • Able to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training
