 We are recruiting for a Grants Officer who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.

We're delighted to share that The Medway Hospital Charity has secured funding from NHS Charities Together for a part-time Grants Officer.

This new position, for 15 hours per week for a fixed term of 12 months, forms part of our strategy to engage with, and secure additional funding from, Trusts, Foundations and grant-making bodies.

We are a small, friendly fundraising team, looking to grow income to support our patients, staff and volunteers.

We want to attract the right candidate and can offer a hybrid working arrangement of two full days per week or 15 hours over three days.

Researching and applying for funding from Trusts, Foundations and grant- making bodies to secure new income streams for The Medway Hospital Charity.

Once funding is secured, you will also be responsible for measuring outputs, outcomes and completing all reports, required by funder.

Strategy and Income Generation:

In conjunction with the Charity and Fundraising Manager, plan and implement a trust and grant-making strategy, with agreed targets and plans to be reviewed on a regular basis.

Contribute to the charity’s annual budgets, targets and plans as agreed by the Charitable Funds Committee.

 Work with the Charity and Fundraising Manager, and other colleagues, to provide updates through regular team meetings, ensuring that all activities are reported.

Identify new ideas for potential improvement or opportunities.

Develop innovative funding opportunities through liaison with internal stakeholders with accurate costings and timetables. 

Budgeting and reporting:

 The maintenance of accurate records is essential using our Harlequin database. Details of all funders, approaches made and responses should be recorded.

Ensure that accurate and up-to-date financial and supporter records are maintained and are accessible, especially with regard to input onto the database of all trust/grant activity.

Provide regular monthly reports about trusts/grants plus performance and cultivation events.

Ensure that all cash handling, banking, donor acknowledgement and receipts are in accordance with current procedures. 

 

Trusts and Foundations:

 Attend a range of events including external meetings and presentations that will inspire audiences to engage with the charity.

Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation including the Charities Act and General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).

Participate in local and regional events to lift the charity profile and encourage donations.

Build relationships with supporters that will benefit the charity.

Research and submit comprehensive and high quality applications to companies, grant-giving bodies, trusts and foundations.

Ensure that appropriate timetables are put in place to reflect the policies of relevant companies and grant funders and that all proposals are consistent with the criteria set.

 Ensure that funders receive reports of activities on time and with the required information and to ensure regular stage payments where appropriate.

 Develop robust funding opportunities that will be fully agreed with internal stakeholders with accurate costings and timetables that will be attractive to grant supporters.

Organise events to engage with potential major donors either on site or at external locations with the support of the Charity and Fundraising Manager, Charitable Funds Committee and senior clinical and executive staff.

Be aware of the Institute of Fundraising Code of Practice with particular regard to the fundraising activities undertaken.

Brand development and reputation:

Ensure supporters adhere to and promote our brand and reputation where appropriate.

With support from the Digital and Branding Manager, create publicity for new and existing activity and campaigns.

Monitor potential opportunities and threats and ensure internal and relevant external audiences are aware of both.

Work with the Charity and Fundraising Manager to raise awareness in local media to maximise publicity and awareness of forthcoming third party events within the community.

Be aware of charity policy on accepting donations in line with the reputation of the charity and hospital trust.
