We are recruiting for a Deputy Director of Operations who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a Deputy Director of Operations to join our senior management team within the Medicine and Emergency Care Division. The role is a joint  appointment as the Deputy, you will also lead Frailty (including Rheumatology and Neurology) as the General Manager.

The MEC Division holds all the main specialities including Specialist Medicine, ED & Acute and Frailty.  The Division has dedicated non-elective wards including the ED department, SDEC, AMU, Frailty SDEC and general medical and frailty wards.    You will be responsible for the delivery of the Trusts elective plan as well as support all elements of RTT , DM01 and Cancer.

As the Deputy Director you will be supporting the Director of Operations with all main duties and will gain vast experience at the senior level.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This is an exciting, fulfilling and challenging role. Working across the Care group and the Division, you will be expected to deliver and pro-actively manage the performance of clinical services, transformational change and identifying service development opportunities whilst maintaining robust business plans.

The post is pivotal to the transformation, development and success of the Division and is a key role in supporting the unified new models of clinical care and managerial leadership in achieving clinical excellence.

Working closely with members of the senior management team, the post holder will ensure the strategic aims and objectives are delivered and achieved. This role will be a key player in supporting the delivery of high quality care for our patients, and will oversee all regulatory standards and operational performance targets.

With strong leadership the day to day experience for our teams is a great one, staff are valued, excellent quality care is provided and the passion for continuous improvement is high.

They will be accountable for devising robust plans which look to sustain achievement of the constitutional (operational) and financial standards, as well as regularly reviewing these to ensure that plans are effective.

The role operates within a complex and challenging environment and we are seeking an exceptional individual with a broad range of skills to be a successful Deputy. The post-holder will need to be an experienced and dedicated health care manager been a General Manager and have Cancer experience.

The successful candidate will require exceptional interpersonal, time management and organisational skills. They will need to have excellent understanding of operational and performance management and significant experience of delivering objectives in a challenging and changing health care environment.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent experience
  • Professionally trained managerially either via a recognised management qualification or a recognised professional development programme

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Up-to-date knowledge of NHS system reform policy and other key policy drivers. (Performance Management, operating Framework, capacity planning, payment by results, independent sector development and Foundation Trust issues)
  • Knowledge of finance & HR Policies and Procedures in the NHS

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent senior management experience
  • Broad ranging experience of working in different acute services
  • Experience in implementing innovative clinically led services
  • Clear understanding of transformation programmes and service development and improvement
  • Evidence to support programme of personal and professional development

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable ability in strategic planning
  • Demonstrable ability in inter-agency communication and negotiation; including collaborative working
  • Demonstrable ability in project management
  • Demonstrable ability in implementing change and evaluation (in complex and changing environments to deliver sustainable services)
