Do you want to work with a highly motivated and dedicated IPC Team which will help provide daily leadership as well as continuing to drive improvements in IPC standards?

Throughout the recent COVID pandemic IPC has been at the forefront of keeping our patients safe and our hospital open to all who needs it.  The Trust is investing heavily to expand the size of the IPC team to meet all future health needs.

This is an exciting time for the IPC team as it continues to promote good practice

Main duties of the job

In collaboration with the other members of the IPC team, the post holder will be proactive and responsible for the prevention, surveillance, investigation and control of infection at Medway NHS Foundation Trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Provide specialist advice to professional, facilities and support staff on care of individuals or groups of patients, either with an infection or at risk of developing an infection.

Explain the significance of laboratory reports to hospital staff and relate clinical information to laboratory staff when required

In liaison with the senior members of the team, you will investigate outbreaks of infection with particular reference to their source and mode of spread, and advise on relevant measures for control. You will communicate information to other members of the Infection Prevention & Control Team and other staff where relevant.

Develop co-operation from staff and create strategies for overcoming barriers to understanding.

Ensure the implementation of best practice in the prevention and control of infection by using a problem solving approach, and facilitation of the change process.

Assist in the development of audit, surveillance and other key indicators for infection control policies and practices.

Assist in the collection and analysis of relevant data for the Infection Prevention & Control Team.

Person specification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • RN1/RN2/RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register. To hold the appropriate level for the area of speciality
  • BSc / 1st degree (health related) or equivalent qualification / training / experience
  • Mentorship / teaching qualification
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of infection control role in health/social care setting.
  • 3-4 years experience of working in an NHS organization.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse or Registered Allied Health Care Professional, minimum 2 years at band 6 in an acute hospital setting in UK.
  • Qualification in teaching, ENB 998 or equivalent or qualified in facilitation skills, and presentation skills.
  • Qulified to minimum of a diploma in IPC, with a recognised certificate awarded by UK university on Infection Prevention and Control or Public Health / Tropical Diseases.
Desirable criteria
  • Level 6 / level 7 modules in infection control or related subject, unless can demonstrate they possess this.

  • Able to work to tight and short deadlines
  • Ability to arrange meetings and events, take note to aid minute writing
  • Excellent organisational skills; ability to organize own time and prioritise work whilst also meeting service priorities.
  • Demonstrates the ability to influence practice and implement change
  • Ability to foster effective relationships internally and externally; good Interpersonal skills
