We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic individual to join our Pharmacy Medicines Optimisation Team to specialise in medical gases. It is a truly perfect opportunity for a dynamic Pharmacy Assistant/Pharmacy Technician to expand their knowledge and upskill in a specialist area. 

Main duties of the job

In post, you will be able to make a significant difference and have a positive impact for patients at Medway NHS Foundation Trust, working within a highly committed team delivering a fantastic service.

As part of the Pharmacy Medicines Optimisation Team you will primarily help us improve the overall management of medical gas cylinders but also integrate within the procurement team, in delivering and contributing to the medicines efficiency programme.

This post will support the ordering of medical gas cylinders and work with a number of key stakeholders including the Estates & Facilities Team and clinical teams in optimising stock management. The successful candidate be provided with appropriate training, knowledge and experience, in order to participate in the safe and effective delivery of pharmacy services across the Trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To transfer and oversee the ordering process of medical gas cylinders. Portering and receipt of stock will remain a function under the Estates and Facilities Department.

Utilising clinical pharmacy knowledge and skills, ensuring medical gases are ordered in line with other medical and are clinically appropriate, challenging where necessary.

To liaise with Trust stakeholders to procure individual lines of medical cylinders from a primary supplier (subject to Trust contractual frameworks).

To advise clinical teams to ensure the most appropriate cylinder choices are made for clinical patient need and Trust equipment.

To confidently answer queries utilising pharmacy knowledge regarding medical gas cylinders, streamlining the ordering process so that only shortages are escalated to Lead Pharmacist Medicines Optimisation.

To liaise with the Finance department to resolve any invoice queries.

To support the Lead Pharmacist Medicines Optimisation in the review and writing of Trust processes for the management of medical gases under the guidance of the Lead Pharmacist Medicines Optimisation, including safe storage, transport of medical gases when in patient

Ensure that processes and protocols are standardised across the Trust to ensure safe, high-quality and cost effective management of medical gases.
