Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To be the responsible lead pharmacist for clinical trials at the Trust providing management, support and advice as appropriate

To develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure pharmacy meets the required GCP standards for clinical trials

To manage clinical trials staff and  assist with the supervision and training of pharmacists and technicians

To provide professional leadership, advice and support

To work as an advanced clinical pharmacist in a defined area of practice

To support peers in developing research and innovation ideas

The purpose of the job is to lead on and be responsible for all aspects of the provision of  Investigational Medicinal Product (IMP) use in Medway NHS Foundation Trust, ensuring that all regulatory, legislative and best practice recommendations are implemented and followed.

They will devise and implement a strategic plan for the development of the pharmacy clinical trials service, also being responsible for budget management and expansion of the service. 

The postholder is expected to be an integrated member of the Trust’s R&I leadership team, supporting with the development and implementation of the medicines related aspects of their strategy.

Additionally, the postholder will support with increasing the research output and leading on innovation in the department.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Master’s degree in pharmacy
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacist in the UK(or eligible to be)
  • Specialist post graduate qualification such as clinical diploma or equivalent experience

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates knowledge of all aspects of GCP, GMP and QA and clinical trial legislation
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply all aspects of regulatory legislation and guidelines
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge covering a range of pharmacy services inc clinical pharmacy services and able to provide highly specialist advice

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven experience of delivering responsibilities and objectives to time in previous posts
  • Previous significant experience of working in clinical trials at advanced level including feasibility assessments
  • Demonstrate experience and ability to manage or supervise a range of projects
  • Experience of managing and motivating staff, appraising and giving feedback

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates ability to identify problems, analyse root cause and propose solutions for complex problems
  • Able to solve difficult and ambiguous problems by advanced reasoning and sound technical judgment
  • Able to develop and review options appraisals and identify the most appropriate option
  • Advanced IT skills – including MS Word, Excel, email and PowerPoint
