Job overview

We're  recruiting for a proactive, driven & innovative Deputy Director of Finance to join an Outstanding rated Trust. This role is key in supporting the delivery of excellent patient care. You'll report to, and deputise for the Executive Director of Finance, this would be well suited to an experienced finance leader.

We have an excellent track record for delivering strong financial performance. Our finance team is highly regarded for flexibility, delivering against deadlines and being a collaborative team player in the Kent and Medway ICS. You will be key to maintaining and developing the support that the finance team gives within the organisation and across Kent and Medway.

We are looking for someone who can bring experience of leading and developing a high performing finance function. You'll be able to demonstrate an ability to present complex issues to a wide range of audiences, managerial, clinical, non-executive and other stakeholders.

Main duties of the job

You'll be able to lead, motivate and inspire others with an ability to establish good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

You'll be a self-motivated individual able to use your own initiative to find creative solutions to complex issues. You'll be an analytical and intuitive thinker with the tenacity to complete challenging tasks along with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines in a timely manner.

It is essential for you to hold a Professional Accountancy qualification (CCAB/CIMA) with current membership registration and possess significant management experience in a large, complex organisation.

You'll be a role model for openness and inclusion, encourage innovative thinking in others, with personal integrity and demonstrate commitment to the values and principles of working in the NHS.

To be responsible for shaping the financial strategies and plans of KCHT to deliver cost effective services to the people of Kent to meet national and local policy. This requires ability to:

  • Influence clinicians and managers to use resources effectively and deliver improved health and health services within the resources available
  • Develop and maintain best practice systems and processes relating to planning
  • Provide benchmark data about the current and planned future use of resources to support improved use of resources, planning and bidding for new business
  • Support negotiations with commissioners and wider health economy financial planning

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

It is important to us that all our staff are aligned to our Values and in particular the behaviours we expect from KCHFT managers. With this in mind as part of the selection process for this position you will be asked to complete two other activities in addition to the competency-based interview that you will invited to.

This extended selection process is designed to assess your management style and the specific details of the exercises will be given if you are successfully shortlisted. 

The provisional date of the selection event is 9th August 2024, although this may be subject to change.

  • Quality Improvement trained

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 5 years post qualification experience at a senior level in finance in a complex multi-professional organisation
  • Understanding of the current NHS policies and strategies and to be able to forecast their impact at a local level
Desirable criteria
  • Senior level experience in a Healthcare organisation particularly the NHS

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Expert knowledge of accounting and financial procedures
