Job overview

The role will require you to work to agreed objectives, to assist with the delivery of contractual Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Working with the aid of a computerised scheduling system, the post holders will be responsible for scheduling patient transport requests to ambulance resources on the day of travel. 

The ability to communicate on all levels is essential and the successful applicant must be able to work on their own or as part of a team and use their own initiative.

Main duties of the job

  • The main focus of the role will be the dispatch and management of the operational crews to ensure timely and efficient collection and delivery of patients between destinations and achieving contractual targets.
  • To receive in an accurate, effective and polite manner, requests for patient transport and queries regarding ambulance journeys, ensuring compliance with relevant service procedures and standing orders.
  • Undertake general clerical duties including but not exclusive checking booking lists, data input, completing ad-hoc forms as necessary.
  • Maintaining and enhancing the performance and quality of service offered to patients and customers.
  • Deal promptly, professionally and efficiently with all telephone calls, taking appropriate action on own initiative where required. Liaising with other agencies such as GP’s, Nursing Homes, Hospital Clinics and Wards.
  • Maintain patient flow across all control areas through effective liaison with colleagues and hospital staff and prompt resolution of urgent problems and appropriate responses to unplanned events.
  • Assisting with booking discharges and transfers from hospital, often under time critical circumstances
  • Booking regular journeys for renal and oncology patients

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Standard of general education to GCSE level offering a range of relevant subjects
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel/Word/Powerpoint/ MS Teams
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working within a hospital/ NHS/public or social care sector setting

Experience/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Level of knowledge/specialist knowledge required as a minimum, i.e. if no qualification what experience/knowledge is required to undertake the role, i.e. is it equivalent to a recognised qualification etc.
  • Required training/courses undertaken

  • Sound written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to pick up new skills including specialised IT systems
