Kent Oncology Centre currently comprises:
•    9 Linear Accelerators 
•    6 at Maidstone,4 of which are TrueBeams 2 new replacement Halcyons in 2022
•    3 at Canterbury, 2 of which are TrueBeams and a Varian iX
•    A range of Brachytherapy services on the Maidstone site.
•    A pre-treatment service with CT/Sim/3D planning with virtual simulation on both sites.
•    Macmillan site specialists for head and neck, brain urology, upper and lower GI, gynaecological and breast cancers.
•    Radiographer led services including on treatment reviews and informed consent.
•    2 Consultant Radiographers specialising in palliative radiotherapy.
•    Multi-disciplinary team working.
•    We are currently involved in the treatment of SABR patients.

 You will be joining an experienced team who receive excellent patient satisfaction scores and deliver the highest, quality modern oncological services.

Main duties of the job

The Role
As a Senior Brachytherapy Radiographer , you will play a pivotal role in our multidisciplinary team, providing high-quality brachytherapy treatment to our patients.

You will be responsible for:
·  Delivering precise and effective brachytherapy  treatments 

·  Ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout their treatment journey.

·  Collaborating closely with oncologists, physicists, and other healthcare professionals.

·  Contributing to the development and implementation of innovative treatment techniques and protocols.

·  Take the lead on preparation and treatment delivery of high dose   irradiation, being responsible for the removal of the radioactive source in   the event of an emergency.

·   Oversee the decision making process on the brachytherapy unit, while   operating within protocol and request senior assistance for decision     making outside of protocol.

·   To ensure all brachytherapy staff in the team are aware of the quality system and are able to use it. To assist with training of radiotherapy staff in the system.

·  To inform the Brachytherapy specialist or Services manager of any problems that may affect the smooth running of the Department. To be aware and report any variances in the performance of equipment by the normal reporting system and to organise regular equipment servicing.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc Radiotherapy or equivalent
  • HCPC registered
  • Further education for specialist area
  • Operator under IRMER
Desirable criteria
  • Undertaken accredited academic Development
  • Brachytherapy training days

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience as a clinical radiotherapist
  • Have worked within a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience within the clinical brachytherapy enviroment
  • Experience on computerised treatment associated equipment
Desirable criteria
  • Familiar with Brachytherapy treatments

Knowledge and skills

Essential criteria
  • Working Knowledge of brachytherapy patient pathways
  • Analytical and decision making skills
  • Organisational skills
