Job overview
A fantastic post has become available due to KMPT transformation offering medical teams an exciting new way to work, separating a rapid response team to review patients in crisis as well as a home treatment team to provide scheduled therapeutic interventions at home.
As a Psychiatrist in the Home Treatment team based at Priority House in Maidstone you will be responsible for delivering a high-quality clinical service and actively involved in the strategic development of the team and broader services.
You will work alongside your Consultant Psychiatrist to provide care for those residing in the picturesque region of West Kent, England.
This region offers a unique blend of rural charm and urban convenience, making it an attractive location for both residents and professionals. The district encompasses vibrant towns such as Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells, and Tonbridge, each known for their excellent schools, green spaces, and rich historical heritage.
Successful applicants will ideally have MRCPsych or equivalent. You will be fully registered with the GMC and have S12 approval under the Mental Health Act (or achieve this within 3 months of appointment).
Main duties of the job
- Assessment and diagnosis of people under the care of the Home Treatment service.
- Use of Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation where clinically appropriate.
- Support teaching of medical students attached to the Home Treatment service.
- To provide consultancy, advice, support and intervention to the team and wider professionals.
- Multi-disciplinary team working and liaising with other secondary care services, in reaching to the wards and external stakeholders as required.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
Desirable criteria
- Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
- MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
- Additional clinical qualifications
Eligibility
Essential criteria
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
Desirable criteria
- In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
- Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
- Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
Transport
Essential criteria
- Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative.
Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Excellent knowledge in specialty
- Completed minimum of three years full-time training in psychiatry
- Clinical expertise in the assessment and Management of risk
- Good working knowledge of the interface between the MCA and MHA
- Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
Desirable criteria
- Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
- Experience in working in other specialities
Academic Skills & Lifelong Learning
Essential criteria
- Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training
- Participated in continuous professional development
- Participated in research or service evaluation
- Able to use and appraise clinical evidence
- Has actively participated in clinical audit
Desirable criteria
- Able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post
- Reflected on purpose of CPD undertaken
- Experienced in clinical research and / or service evaluation.
- Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement: awards, prizes, presentations and publications.
- Has led clinical audits leading to service change.
Applicant requirements
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have regular contact with vulnerable people and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
