To assist in the provision of an efficient, responsive, flexible and effective estates maintenance service to the Maidstone Hospital site as part of the Estates Department team.
The post holder shall carry out maintenance, repairs and new works including joinery, locks, furniture, fittings, doors, windows etc.
Undertake both reactive repairs and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programme to help prolong the life expectancy of equipment/plant. Recording work carried out via a software package.
Main duties of the job
Complete allocated reactive and planned work in accordance with Trust and departmental policies and procedures.
Work with minimal supervision, providing maintenance, repair and replacement services as necessary to the carpentry service.
Respond to emergency and urgent repair requests in a timely and effective manner, restoring services where possible or making services safe until more extensive or specialist work can be undertaken and completed. Record and report any further work required as necessary

Knowledge/Experience
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of the maintenance procedures relating to the complex and specialised engineering services, systems, plant and equipment within a hospital Trust – both Mechanical and Electrical.
- Working knowledge of Health & Safety regulations.
- Recognition and understanding of statutory requirements relating to pressure systems.
- Recognition and understanding of the Electricity at Work Regulations.
- Experience of working within a primary or secondary care environment, Experience of managing a diverse day-to-day workload.
- Proven experience of working in an equivalent role.
- Experience of carrying out unsupervised building fabric maintenance and minor repair work.
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NVQ2 or City & Guilds in an engineering discipline – or an equivalent level of experience.
Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to work as part of a team or on own initiative on a wide range of applications across the Trust.
- To be able to work under pressure to resolve major disruptions.
- Willingness to assist in training and attend training as required.
- A dedicated and committed member of a diverse team of engineers
- UK current driving licence
Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
