Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative leader to join our Cancer and Outpatients Division at Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells as a General Manager. The successful candidate must be a motivated professional with a track record of consistently delivering high quality patient focused care.    

This role will work closely with the Clinical Directors and Head of Nursing to deliver the departments’ operational, strategic & quality agenda.

The Kent Oncology Centre provides comprehensive cancer services for the 1.8 million population of Kent, Medway and East Sussex and this role includes management of staff based across multiple sites at MTW.

Main duties of the job

Strong problem-solving skills, along with the ability to communicate well, build relationships and influence stakeholders both internal and external to the trust are essential to a successful application. Experience of budgetary management, staff management and the ability to meet the peaks and troughs of service demand are a must.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or relevant experience
  • Evidence of further personal development
  • Post Graduate Management qualification or equivalent high-quality training/experience (Master’s Level)
Desirable criteria
  • Clinical qualifications relevant to the Directorate NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement tools and techniques in waiting list, demand and capacity management.
  • Formal project management qualification

Experience/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Managerial experience with a proven track record of success in business case development
  • Experience in public healthcare
  • Understanding of how organisations achieve prime performance Knowledge of health service management, including change management and workforce planning
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of producing and implementing successful business cases
  • Track record of successful service improvements and changes.
  • Some Acute Sector or local government experience.
  • Understanding of the changing NHS environment (Patient Choice, Financial Flows, GP Practice commissioning).
  • Understanding of NHS Modernisation Programme and service improvement tools and techniques.
