An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Pharmacy team at senior management level.
You will lead, develop, deliver and evaluate pharmacy services at Maidstone site as Head of Pharmacy/Deputy Chief Pharmacist.
Pharmacy has a high profile in the Trust and we have well established clinical teams and clinical services. We are an enthusiastic and dynamic team and have developed new ways of working including an integrated Electronic Prescribing and Medicine Administration System (EPMA) and 7 days service.
The main pharmacy at Maidstone Hospital has a fully automated dispensary and utilises TTO tracker and wireless devices to facilitate workflow.
Your strategic portfolio will be responsibility for leading and delivering pharmacy strategies for operational and medicines value services (Dispensary, medicines procurement and distribution, all outreach service, medicines value and homecare service), across the Trust and across the system as appropriate.
You will support the Chief Pharmacist in the strategic plans and delivery of the vision and priorities for the pharmacy department and will work as part of the pharmacy management team to ensure patient centred services are provided by a competent and versatile pharmacy workforce.
Main duties of the job
To lead, develop, deliver and evaluate pharmacy services at Maidstone Site.
To deputise for the Chief Pharmacist across portfolio in their absence.
Assist the Chief Pharmacist in planning and managing all aspects of Trust Pharmacy Services to enable the Trust to deliver clinically effective services.
To be an active member of the senior pharmacy leadership team with a strategic focus on operational & medicines value services.
Will be responsible to drive the delivery of pharmacy strategies for operational and medicines value services (Dispensary, medicines procurement and distribution, all outreach service, medicines value and homecare service.
Provide leadership and maintain and improve standards of clinical pharmacy practice, quality assurance, risk management and other issues of clinical governance related to medicines optimisation, which includes requirements specified by regulators such as CQC, GPhC and other healthcare organisations such as NHSE and NICE.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Vocational Masters (MSc) degree in Pharmacy
- Completed foundation year training- pre-registration
- Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
- Post-graduate diploma or MSc in clinical pharmacy or equivalent
- Demonstrate CPD as required by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
Desirable criteria
- Postgraduate management qualification.
- Independent Prescriber or Advanced Care Practitioner
- Royal Pharmaceutical Society membership
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post registration experience in hospital pharmacy.
- Recent extensive practice in a leadership role within a hospital pharmacy service at a senior level.
- Experience of delivering a high-quality pharmacy service to customers
- Ability to effectively manage resources including people, finance and facilities.
- Has experience in utilising digital systems and information technology.
- Detailed knowledge and experience of the operation of NHS organisations.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of clinical audit and /or practice research
- Project management
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Excellent clinical and pharmaceutical knowledge relating to promotion of high quality, efficacious and cost effective use of medicines
- Knowledge of the changing NHS environment and government initiatives e.g. Integrated Medicines Optimisation, National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE), CQC, Integrated Care System (ICS), Primary Care Networks (PCNs)
- Understanding of Clinical Governance and Risk Management and their influence on current practice
Skills
Essential criteria
- Well-developed leadership and motivational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to plan, prioritise and organise workload.
- Effective customer service skills – able to work to meet the needs of customers of the department.
